What does a contact lens evaluation include?

Contact lens evaluation starts at $39 and can go up to $89 for complicated fits.
This includes all of the necessary trial lenses to determine the best contact lenses for you and all follow-up visits. There is no need to purchase any contact lenses until you are certain that they will work for you, and then at that time you can purchase as many or as little as you like.

1.Additional measurements of the eye ie. Corneal curve, diameter and pupil size.
2.Evaluating the health of the cornea. It must be determined whether or not you eyes is getting enough oxygen to maintain eye health. If you chose to sleep in your contact lenses you are increasing your chances of eye infections and therefore must be more closely monitored. Not everyone can sleep/nap in their contact lenses without complications.
3.Evaluating life style and habits. There are hundreds of contacts to choose form and the contact lens evaluation is an opportunity to discuss your needs. Consider this…
·Would you like to be able to sleep in your lenses continuously for up to 30 days?
·Would you like the ultimate convenience of throwing your lenses away daily and not hassling with cleaning and storing your lenses?
·Do you have dry eyes that make it impossible for you to be able to wear you contacts?
·Do you have allergy eyes and are unable to wear your lenses during allergy season?
·Have you been told that contact lenses don’t come in your prescription?
·Did you know that there is such a thing as a bifocal lens?
·Are your eyes sensitive to contact lens cleaning solutions and rewetting drops?
·Are you concerned about the importance of having a contact lens that blocks harmful ultraviolet rays?
·Do you want to be fit with the newest technology in lens materials that lets the most oxygen to the eye?
· Why settle for old technology?
4.Prescribing a contact lens cleaning regiment that works the best for you contact lens material and for you sensitive eyes.
5. Evaluation the fit of the contact lens ON THE EYE. After carefully considering all of the above, trial lenses will be given to evaluate the fit of the lens and the vision that is achieved with the lens. Until the doctor sees the lens on the eye, there is simply not a final prescription. A poor fitting lens can result in a number of undesirable situations. Often times, the doctor will instruct the patient to wear the lenses for a week to make certain that the patient is happy with the vision and comfort of the lens. If the lenses are not working, follow up visits may be needed to “fine-tune” the fit and vision.

Why do I need to pay for a contact lens fit if I already wear contacts?

After you have completed your comprehensive eye health evaluation, you will have a glasses prescription that is valid all year. You may fill this prescription whenever you like, If you choose to wear contact lenses,  whether you have worn before or this is your first experience, you must have a contact lens evaluation. This evaluation must take place EACH year because a contact lens is a medical device that is monitored by the FDA and has the potential to cause serious sight-threatening complications if not worn according to the FDA recommendations.
It is definitely to your advantage to have a thorough contact lens fitting and evaluation. All contact lenses are not the same and careful considerations should be taken to insure that you will be able to wear contact lenses safely and comfortably for many, many years to come.
